Hainan: The tourism of China’s island paradise is booming – 48 luxury resorts in the pipeline

Beijing, China – 28 May 2015 – Paradise on earth: the sun-kissed holiday island Hainan in the south of China is about to be converted into an international tourism destination. Since more than five years the tourism is booming – a public index is recording growth rates of almost 18 percent every year. According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider for global b2b hotel data, currently 48 new luxury resorts with more than 20,700 rooms are under construction or in development on Hainan.

The largest hotel project on the island is the spectacular Sanya Beauty Crown Hotel with „seven hotel stars“. The hotel will feature 6,000 rooms and serviced apartments in nine building sections, which will look like trees. The hotel project costs more than a billion US-Dollars and will open its doors in spring 2016. The extraordinary tree shape, the “nine beautiful trees”, should represent the tropical nature of the island, which is also called “Hawaii of China”.

Currently China offers more than 2.7 million rooms and 11,700 hotels. The tendency is rising. Recently the tourism archived a revue of 40 billion US-Dollars. Until 2022 it is expected that the market volume will increase up to 100 billion US-Dollars and will therefore surpass the USA.

The brand new Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay opens with the first Goji Kitchen in Southern China.

Sanya, China – 16 December 2014 – Marriott International announced the opening of its third hotel under the flagship Marriott Hotels brand in Hainan Province, China – Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay. The 458-room resort hotel sits at the foot of the picturesque Luhuitou Mountain and overlooks the beachfront and ocean. The hotel features two iconic buildings landscaped around four outdoor pools including one infinity-edged pool, luxuriant tropical gardens and a grand seafront lawn, plus the debut of an exciting new Marriott dining concept in China.

Overlooking the ocean at the base of a mountain blanketed by tropical rainforest, Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay combines modern luxury and easy access to pristine natural beauty. The master design concept conceived by US-based architecture studio AECOM and vibrant interiors by renowned design specialists HBA, drew inspiration from the natural surroundings, and are designed to provide guests with optimal views of the splendid sunsets and sunrises over Dadonghai Bay.

The New Wing offers 292 elegant and spacious rooms and suites, each showcasing scenic mountain or ocean vistas. Hainan, China – 24 October 2014 – Guests of all ages checking into the newest resort in Haitang Bay – Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort and Spa, Hainan – will discover a paradise dedicated to play.  The 340-room resort, which opens today, is set on 45 acres and offers the most recreational activities and facilities in Haitang Bay, including its own Adventure Zone and Kids’ Water Park (opening in November 2014).

Shangri-La’s first resort to open in mainland China boasts 300 metres of pristine beachfront and stunning views of the surrounding mountains and hills. It is tailor made to suit travellers of all ages, and offers options for families travelling with multiple generations as well as groups looking for a scenic and stimulating setting for a wedding, meeting or incentive event.

Activities are spread out across two designated areas (Oasis and Sands) with five activity centres. In addition to the Water Park and Adventure Zone, the resort features two free-form pools; jogging and bike trails; a beach football field; sand volleyball court; water games; a state of the art gym with an outdoor deck for activities such as Tai Chi and yoga, and additional recreational activities that are complimentary for guests.

Inspired by island paradises from around the globe, the resort’s design features elements found in nature and the tropics. The open-air lobby is decorated in neutral tones with ceiling fans, stone and wood carvings, floral patterns and tropical plants adding texture and warmth.

Guestrooms are located in the seven-storey Ocean, Coral and Palm wings and also take their design cues from nature, with hardwood floors, closet handles carved to look like seashells and gold-leaf seashell artwork. Every king-bedded room has a pull-out sofa bed. And family amenities include robes and slippers for kids.

Restaurants include Kon Tiki, whose menu plays homage to Sanya’s nickname as the “Hawaii of China”. Kon Tiki offers flavours from the South Pacific and draws inspiration from Polynesian culture. Interactive live fire dance performances, grass skirt dancing and a drum show keep the atmosphere lively and match the menu, which features items such as Banana Ducky Pizza – a smoked duck breast with mashed banana in tangy tamarind sauce.

The all-day dining restaurant, Chuyi Wutai, presents authentic Chinese home-style cuisine along with international fare across six open theatre-style kitchens. The 366 seat restaurant has its own kid’s corner with a buffet designed specifically for children.

Signature dishes at Chuyi Wutai include Hainanese Chicken Rice as well as local dishes such as Dongshan Lamb and wok-fried Wuzhijiao Pork.

At S.E.A. restaurant diners can enjoy the ocean breeze as they hand-select the freshest local seafood. Using the freshest ingredients, S.E.A.’s chefs present authentic Southeast Asian favourites, including Tom Yum Goong Soup and Singaporean Chilli Crab with Fried buns.

Refreshing drinks and cocktails and snacks can be enjoyed in the Lobby Lounge, Pool Bar or open-air Dragonfly Bar.

For destination weddings, meetings and events, the resort offers a 1,500-square-metre ballroom and 10 breakout function spaces. Events can also be set up along the 300 metres of beach, on “the lawn” or in the landscaped garden.

Opening later this year will be the resort’s CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La and eight two-story villas.

Sanya, China – 3 September 2014 – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced an agreement with Hainan Jianfeng Tourism Development Co., Ltd. to debut China’s first W Retreat and the second St. Regis resort on Hainan Island. Scheduled to open in 2019 and 2020, respectively, W Retreat & Spa Sanya – Haitang Bay and The St. Regis Sanya Haitang Bay Resort will both be located at the North Wing of Haitang Bay, one of the most exclusive and sought-after addresses in the area.
